Why TED talks don't change your life much

Opening

Starts off by asking the audience whether they had a great day and whether they are inspired by the previous speakers and then ask if that is enough for which the answer is No because for a person to change other factors need to be taken into consideration rather than Ted talks. The speaker then introduces his topic.

Introduction

After his opening remark, the speaker states that in order to change our life we need to train our unconscious mind rather than our conscious mind.  It is not enough to be inspired and it is not enough to have happy thoughts. We need to understand how our brain works.

Content

The speaker explained each part of the brain and all the attributes of each part. He further explains all the scientific facts about the brain and how one can use it to its full potential. He also talked about rational and irrational decisions. Decisions we make are based on our memory and the little information we have. We tend to make decisions unconsciously the second we see something. In order to change our life we need to make sure our brains are always working and working effortlessly. This can be achieved through habits that allow us to do behaviors without consciously thinking about them. The speaker also states that our unconscious brain can be trained through discipline.

Conclusion

The speaker concludes his talk by listing how to create a habit and accordingly discipline to follow through. He ends it by saying that the key to change is by turning your goal into a habit.

Signpost

"So what we are going to talk about today is....."

"Now I want to go to the next big evolutionary leap of the brain...."

"So the first thing is..."

Slides
The slides are appealing and included a lot of visual aids for the audience to get a better picture of what the speaker is talking about with little to no text. There were more pictures rather than text.

Distinct presentation skills from the talk

The speaker gives references from a book he read which makes his speech more credible.

Frequently asked the audience questions to keep them engaged and interactive.

Used a lot of appropriate hand gestures.
